Justice League picks up after the first two films by Zack Snyder in the DC Cinematic Universe (Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice). Following the director’s departure due to a personal tragedy, the higher-ups stepped in and Snyder’s original vision was completely ruined. After Snyder was able to fix his vision and put it out to the world on HBO Max, more information has been coming out about the creative process and the scenes that didn’t make it in, like a Green Lantern appearance.

Porter has now come out and offered more information about his character Darkseid, including the plot hole about Darkseid seemingly forgetting about Earth despite trying to conquer it once before. “Consider the fact that he’s turned a hundred thousand worlds to dust, it was so long ago that he found this equation and then it was taken from him in battle and he always wanted to ’re-find’ it. We are talking so many thousands of years, so many planets, universes, and possible Earths. Uxas, the person who became Darkseid has also changed so much in that long time span,” Porter said during an interview with FandomWire. “For someone whose knowledge spans so much, maybe the knowledge got lost in the vastness that it was on this Earth in particular. Then, Steppenwolf, of all people, approaches him about this.”
While Zack Snyder’s Justice League isn’t technically perfect, it was still cool to see the popular villain brought to life on the big screen for a live-action movie, even if it was for a short time. Justice League wasn’t even able to finish all the story beats that were initially intended to be in the film due to the amount of intervention from the higher-ups. This may mean that fans will never know what the original cut would have been like had Snyder been allowed to fulfill his vision from the start.
Moving forward, it would be nice to see Snyder get a second shot at the DC universe. The movie’s unreleased plans foretold a very impactful and unique take on the world of DC. It seemed it had a little bit of influence taken from the Injustice storyline and it also looked to incorporate unique beats that set it apart from its competition with Marvel Studios.
Hopefully, more people continue to voice their opinions, good or bad, about their films. Had Snyder never kept the conversation going, fans might not have demanded the Snyder Cut. Right now DC is looking for its own Kevin Feige, but it seems to not have realized that it already had one.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League is currently available on HBO Max.
