Although this popular word game has spawned tons of clones and even a future Wordle board game by Hasbro, there is only one original Wordle. All hints in this article will be about the New York Times Games website version; other Wordles may have different answers and rules.

Head to the New York Times Games Wordle website. Choose a good staring word. It must be five letters long, a real English word, and should contain a variety of common letters. Wordle answers will never be offensive words, are almost always the American spellings of words, and are almost never plural nouns ending in S. Puzzle answers cannot be proper nouns. Type the starting word into the website and press enter. The letters will change color to give players clues to the real answer. Green letters are correct and in the right position, gray letters are wrong and won’t appear in the final answer, and those that turn yellow are correct but in the wrong position in the word. Given these clues, keeping guessing new words until the six tries are up or the answer is guessed. New puzzles come around just once a day at midnight.
