The film will follow a group of actors and actresses forced to live in a bubble together in a hotel while they complete filming. As yet, no stars are attached but the film is expected to be a big ensemble piece with Netflix due to meet and discuss terms with various actors in the coming weeks. Insiders say it could attract a cast to rival the likes of Knives Out and The Disaster Artist.

The big deal here isn’t just another big name hopping over to Netflix, it’ll be the first film by Apatow that isn’t with Universal pictures. Since his breakout hit The 40-Year Old Virgin back in 2005, Apatow has directed and produced exclusively for the studio with his last film there, The King of Staten Island, being one of the first major releases to skip a theatrical release and go straight to VOD.
The film’s topic is very timely after so many big upcoming films and slates have been heavily disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. With precautions causing budgets to balloon, it’s a bold move to order a film about filming in a pandemic that’ll have to be filmed during an actual pandemic but it should make for a more believable film at least.
As said above, no details are known but maybe we could see reunion with many of Apatow’s collaborators like Seth Rogen, Steve Carrell and his wife Leslie Mann. And because of its timeliness, it’s likely it’ll be released in 2021 while the memory of this terrible, terrible year remains fresh.
